Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls gives girls the tools they need to achieve their education and career goals, empowering them to break cycles of poverty, violence, and abuse. We prioritize working with girls to overcome obstacles including poverty, unstable home lives, living in foster care, or teen motherhood. Soroptimist clubs work in partnership with girls in small groups or a conference setting to provide them with the information and resources they want and need to be successful. We cover: Career Opportunities, Setting and Achieving Goals, Overcoming Obstacles to Success, and Moving Forward after Setbacks or Failures. We host an annual event that provides girls with tools to make educated choices and plans for their future and provides them with hope and confidence. Recently, we have partnered with Helping Us Help Her (HUHH) https://huhh.org , another local non-profit in Grand Prairie established to help young women achieve their goals.
Every year, Soroptimist International distributes more than $2 million in education grants to about 1,500 women all over the world. Over half of our Live Your Dream Awards recipients are survivors of domestic violence, trafficking or sexual assault. Nearly all of the women and families we serve have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, teen pregnancy, and drug or alcohol addiction. Live Your Dream Awards recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation. Our Grand Prairie club has been giving this award (or a variation of it) since 1975. Education award of $1,000 to women who have overcome enormous personal obstacles to aid in realizing their education dreams.
The Soroptimist International Grand Prairie Girl of the Month Program has been recognizing local middle and high school girls since the 2000's. This bi-monthly breakfast celebration, for current 8th graders and high school seniors, recognizes the recipients' commitment to community service, exemplary volunteerism, and efforts to enrich the experiences of others in society, at school, and at home. This program is a partnership with Grand Prairie Independent School District in which we acknowledge girls in the above grades who have been nominated each month by their schools and its administration. We host them and their families for breakfast to honor them and celebrate their success!
This is our annual fundraiser held in March in recognition of Women's History Month. Our Sneaker Ball includes dinner, live and silent auctions, dancing, and networking. This is a great night to get dressed up and wear your cutest sneakers to dance the night way, for a good cause. During this program we award members of the community with the following awards: Woman of Distinction, Business Advancing Women, Ruthe Jackson Sprit of Volunteerism, and Presidents Award. This event allows us to continue to serve our community, and women and girls pursue their education.
This scholarship is also presented at the Sneaker ball. The young lady is a previous Girl of the Month that has stood out to her counselors and school administration. They have shown their character in the class room and extracurricular activities they have been apart of. They are going to keep pursuing their education by attending a university.
The Soroptimist Grand Prairie All “A” Award Program recognizes those GPISD students who have maintained all A’s throughout their scholastic careers. Each May, we host an award ceremony to present certificates to these 5th and 8th grade students and also present plaques and a grade plate to 9th grade students. If they continue to maintain all A’s, they are then acknowledged though their senior year with a small grade plate each year to complete their plaque. This program is a partnership with the Grand Prairie Independent School District.

By reaching girls while they are still young, we not only help them stay healthy and safe in the short term, but we can reduce the number of women in crisis in the future. Putting them on a path will help them realize their dreams.
